House At Haunted Hill

A truly impressive, professional quality home yard haunt in Woodland Hills, CA.  They've been decorating their home since 2007, but this is the first opportunity I've had to see it.  Amazing production, the show is run by a show control system.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_House_at_Haunted_Hill

"Trick 'r Treat" Sequel Announced

A wonderful night at the Egyptian Theatre, a screening of Trick 'r Treat with Questions and Answers afterwards with some of the cast, director, and producer.

The courtyard of the Egyptian Theater was decorated with jack o'lanterns, ghosts, bales of hay, and lots of lights.  It was beautiful.  There was fog, it was highly atmospheric.  There was candy, there were suckers in the same shape as Sam carried.  Everything, including the tickets were free.

After the film, there was a very short Q & A session, and a cake presented to Michael Dougherty as it was his birthday.  Then Sam came out to give Michael a birthday card.  The card requested a sequel, and the wish was granted.  We can expect a sequel to "Trick 'r Treat".  http://www.legendary.com/news/trick-r-treat-sequel-announced

Each person attending was given a limited edition LARGE Trick 'r Treat poster in a very heavy cardboard tube.  We had taken the subway to get there, so I was grateful for the tube, it kept the poster safe from damage on the subway.   What a great night.  If you were unable to attend, I hope you were able to watch the event live online.

I didn't get a Sam sucker, but I did get some candy.  There was a Reese's peanut butter cup in the bag.  I've never had one before, and tried it.  I didn't know that it was in a cardboard cup and accidentally chewed the cup in my mouth before I realized...   Always check your candy.

Halloweentown Store Window Displays

Halloween display windows from the great Halloweentown store, a year-round Halloween store in Burbank, CA.  LINK

Grave Rock Gulch

Saw a fantastic yard haunt in Glendale last night - Grave Rock Gulch. It's a haunted western town built entirely on the front lawn.  Incredible work, highly detailed.  I was there for half an hour but kept discovering more each time I looked at one of the sets.  Tonight they are adding more animated props.  They said they have been working on this since June.  It's one of the best yard haunts I've ever seen.  www.hollywoodhaunter.com

Monster Cereals In Retro Packaging This Year!

According to the General Mills blog, our favorite Monster Cereals will return to Target Stores in retro packaging this season.  AND they've brought back Yummy Mummy and Fruit Brute (now "Frute" Brute).  If you don't have a Target Store nearby, other stores will carry the cereals in "non-retro" designs.  Check the General Mills blog about this for more info.

RIP Julie Harris

We lost a great actress today.  Julie Harris, star of the incredible Robert Wise film "The Haunting" died at age 87.  To this day, still my favorite horror film, made all the more wonderful to me knowing that Julie and I shared the same hometown of Grosse Pointe, Michigan.  Her family home was only a mile or so from mine.

"Hill House" used in the film is now the Ettington Park Hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon.  You can book a visit there and do your own ghost hunting if you wish.  It's considered the most haunted hotel in all of the UK.

"No one lives any nearer than town.
No one will come any nearer than that.
In the night.
In the dark."
- Mrs Dudley, "The Haunting"

Trivia: Julie Harris' Childhood Home in
Grosse Pointe looking a bit like Hill House:
9,600 square feet of home on Lake St Clair

Even more trivia: An RAF jet crashed into houses about 2000 feet away from their home in October 1958

Old Spook Show Poster and Ad

This is one of my favorite old Spook Show Poster designs.  From the 1950s-60s.  It was a generic poster that you could order as part of a promotional package for your Spook Show!  See the ad below - only $3.50!

I've added the design to a Zazzle t-shirt.  Remember if you order, you can choose any color or style of shirt that you'd like.  Click the link below.
